Construction is 2/3 done!

MOTHRA's fleet of lenses

Completion of MOTHRA's construction phase is scheduled for six month from now, and the preliminary data being taken by the partially-constructed array is beyond awesome. (More on that in an upcoming News entry). These data are now being analyzed in our dedicated compute cluster in Portland, which was completed a couple of months ago. Minor miracles like building a 5m aperture telescope in 18 months with about ten people takes dedicated people, and the recent pulse of progress was spurred on by a recent trip to Chile by Deb Lokhorst, Imad Pasha, Will Bowman, Seery Chen and Lisa Sloan, who returned recently from another trip to El Sauce to work with the crack on-site Obstech team. Together, they undertook a huge number of construction tasks. The team also inspected new purpose-built accommodations being constructed for on-site visits to MOTHRA. In addition to being very comfortable, these will have incredible views of the Rio Hurtado Valley and the sublime Andean landscape, where astronomical research and profound natural beauty coexist.
